My kingdom for a closet

It has always bugged me that dollhouse bedrooms tend not to have closets. In a real house, you can’t call it a bedroom if it *doesn’t* have a closet, but if you want them in a dollhouse, you usually have to make them yourself. Luckily, they’re pretty easy to make. In my first dollhouse, I […]

Hamsters in cars!

I realize I’m playing right into the marketers’ hands by posting this, but I can’t help it. This commercial is so clever. My only gripe is that all of the hamsters in the ad appear to be Syrians. What, no dwarf hamsters live on Hamsterdam Ave? Is this a segregated community?

I didn’t do it!

Oh no? So how did that lone shoe end up on your towel? And how did all that stuffing end up on the floor? And how do you manage to be so cute, even when you’re up to no good?

The incredible edible egg

My neighbors are on vacation, and they asked me to take care of their chickens while they’re away. In my youth I spent summers working at the Natick Community Organic Farm, so this isn’t my first experience herding chickens into a coop or collecting eggs. (Little known fact: if you need to pick up a […]

Puzzle house garden completed

I actually finished this up over Fourth of July weekend, but forgot to post the pictures. Oops. I really liked the trim my dad added to the base of the Fairfield and I wanted to do the same for the puzzle house. Geoff helped with the cutting and mitering. The base is a bit thicker […]

Puzzle house path — third time’s a charm

The other day I was mulling over puzzle house path ideas, but wasn’t crazy about either one. Yesterday I came up with a third option that’s a winner—”flagstones” made out of egg carton material. I’ve heard of people using egg cartons to make miniature bricks and stones, but this is my first time trying it. […]

New tomatoes, week 1

Although I have some lingering guilt over last week’s tomato euthanasia, the new plants seem to be doing well. They’ve all gotten bigger and bushier—in particular the Early Girl, which seemed to go from one slender stalk to a real live tomato plant overnight. Still only a handful of flowers, but I’m optimistic. Also the […]

Puzzle house — playing around in the yard

Yesterday I received my recent order from The Vintage Dollhouse, a shop in Houston that’s (unfortunately) closing out their half scale merchandise. One of the items I ordered was the metal mailbox in the picture below. I wasn’t sure if it would look weird to have the mailbox inside of the fence, but now that […]
