When is a hutch not a hutch?

When it’s a bed, of course!

Michael’s sells these great hutches for a dollar a piece. There are a few different styles, but apparently the one I used to make this bed isn’t available anymore (I’ve had a few in my stash for years). Earlier this week there was some conversation on the Greenleaf forum about what to do with Michael’s hutches and I had a blast of inspiration. I needed a bed for my Westville that’s not quite to scale because the space in the bedroom is tight, and as it turns out, the hutch turned on its back is the perfect size.

This afternoon I picked up some decorative trim at Dollhouses, Trains, and More to use as the headboard, and decided to add it to the footboard as well. I glued lace to the edges of the bed to look like a dust ruffle but in retrospect it might have looked nice to use the trim there as well.

This was a fun project that only took a few hours. I have a couple more of the hutches so I might try another one with a different look.

A few additional pictures can be found on the Greenleaf forum.

I knew this day would come, but I dared to dream…

I got a response from Chase today in regards to the letter I sent about my recent crappy experience with their company. Smacks of being a form letter… not one personal touch in it, and no signature, although the name at the bottom is Kelly Hanick, senior director of customer service, to whom I sent my original letter.

After reiterating that the fee can’t be reversed, the letter goes on to provide some helpful tips for avoiding future late payments, the first of which is “Please mail all payments at least five days prior to the due date on the statement.”

Um… how about submitting payment electronically eleven days before the due date on the statement? Wouldn’t that be kind of the same concept?

A Google search yielded some very similar complaints from people in the same boat as me.

Guess I’ll be looking for a new credit card provider…

My big backyard

All sorts of critters turning up in the yard these days…

The little lizard came scurrying out from under a pot this morning while I was watering the tomatoes. The deer was hanging out in our neighbor’s yard last week with a few friends. We have a fence that keeps them out, but they do seem to enjoy hanging out in our driveway at dusk…
