Fairfield kitchen cabinets (continued)

My order of Bonnie Lavish kits included a counter top and sink. The sink is made of wood—three skinny cutout pieces that are glued together to create depth, and a bottom piece with “drains” scribed into the wood. The photo below shows the sink parts after the three cutouts were glued together, but before the bottom piece was glued on.

After assembling the sink, I primed it and the counter top with one of my favorite paint colors, Glidden Sandy Feet.

I colored in the drain holes with brown magic marker (seemed easier than painting those tiny circles, plus I’d been using the marker for touch-ups on the laser cut edges of the cabinet pieces, so it was handy). Then I glued washers on top to look like drains. They’re a little big but they get the point across.

Fairfield kitchen cabinets

Recently there was a conversation on the Yahoo half scale group about Bonnie Lavish’s kitchen cabinet kits. She discontinued these several years ago but said she would cut some for people on the list who were interested. Since I have two half scale kitchens to work on—the Fairfield and the Rosedale—I jumped at the offer! I got my kits in the mail in early September and it’s taken me a few weeks (off and on) to get the Fairfield’s built.

(Bonnie told me that she might start selling these more regularly if there’s interest. If you want more info about the kits, you can find her contact info on her website.)

The kits are modular, similar to the Houseworks Kitchen Collection kits available in 1″ scale. There are several different widths and cabinet heights available and I spent a lot of time futzing with layout ideas before placing my order. Here’s the layout I decided on.

The kits are laser cut from cherry wood. There are three different door styles available (grooved, cathedral, and traditional). I chose the grooved for the Fairfield.

It’s not easy being a Greyhuahua…

I’ve had this green(ish) chair for more than ten years. It’s seen better days. As such, it’s the only piece of furniture Rosy’s allowed on, and usually only when she’s invited up to sit with me. But today she was sleeping when I got up, looking much too cute to be disturbed…

It sure was nice of the squeaky dog to share the chair with her. Not like that mean monkey that kicked her off her pillow and onto the floor a few nights ago…
